From Darkness To Light: How To Remain Focusd Despite Distractions

As I sit here, reflecting on my journey, I am reminded of the power of resilience and determination. Just a few years ago, my life took a dramatic turn when I lost my sight. It was a challenging time, and many people around me thought that my life was effectively over.*The Darkest Moment*I remember the feeling of despair that washed over me as I struggled to come to terms with my new reality. Friends and family members would often whisper to each other, “He’s better off dead than living like this.” Their words cut deep, and I couldn’t help but wonder if they were right.*Desertion by Friends and Relations*As the days turned into weeks, I began to notice that my friends and relations were slowly deserting me. They would call or visit me less frequently, and when they did, they would often speak to me in a patronizing tone, as if I was a child. They had lost confidence in me, and I couldn’t blame them. Some even went as far as deleting my phone number . I had lost confidence in myself too.*The Rehabilitation School’s Rejection*When I decided to pursue my passion for blogging, I was discouraged by my school. They didn’t think that a blind person could be a successful blogger. I was devastated, but I refused to give up.*Finding Inner Strength*But as I sat in the darkness, something within me began to stir. I realized that I had a choice to make: I could let my disability define me, or I could use it as an opportunity to rediscover myself.*Discovering My Passion*As I began to explore my new reality, I discovered a passion for blogging. It was a way for me to express myself, to connect with others, and to share my story. And so, I started writing.Creating a Schedule*To stay focused, I created a schedule that worked for me. I set aside dedicated time for writing, and I stuck to it. Here is an example of my daily schedule:As a blind blogger whom most family members and friends has deserted and someone who’s passionate about achieving his goals, I’ve had to develop strategies to stay focused and avoid distractions. In the past, I used to love working late at night when everyone else was asleep. But as I’ve grown older, I’ve realized the importance of getting enough sleep and establishing a healthier work routine.Creating a Plan and Taking ActionSo, how do I stay focused? For me, it all starts with planning and creating an action list. I have a 1-3 year plan that outlines my goals and objectives. This plan doesn’t change much once I’ve set it, but my action list is constantly evolving. I add new tasks and ideas to the list regularly, and I remove tasks as I complete them.Prioritizing Focus TimeAnother key strategy for me is setting aside dedicated time for focused work. I call this my “don’t disturb ” time. For three hours every day, from 10:30am to 1:30pm, I work on tasks that require intense focus. During this time, I avoid checking emails, messages, or taking phone calls. This allows me to make significant progress on my goals without any distractions. My Typical WorkdayHere’s an overview of what my typical workday looks like:- 8:30am – 1030am: I start my day by tackling routine business tasks, such as responding to emails or updating my schedule.- 11:30 am – 1:30 pm: This is my “don’t disturb ” time, where I focus on tasks that require intense concentration.- 1:30 -pm – 2:30pm: I take a break and do something relaxing, such as reading a book or taking a walk.- 2:30pm – onwards: I spend the afternoon responding to emails, attending meetings, or working on less intense tasks.- 9pm to 10:30pm – I do minor revision of my articles The Power of FocusI’ve found that having a clear plan and dedicating time to focused work has been instrumental in my success. By avoiding distractions and staying committed to my goals, I’ve been able to achieve more *Overcoming Distractions*As I continued to write, I realized that distractions were a major obstacle. Social media, email, and phone notifications were constant temptations. But I knew that I had to stay focused if I wanted to achieve my goals. Here are some strategies that helped me overcome distractions:- Turn off notifications on my phone and computer- Use website blockers to limit my access to social media and other distracting websites- Create a quiet and comfortable workspace- Break my work into smaller, manageable chunks*Staying Motivated*So, how did I stay motivated? I reminded myself why I started blogging in the first place. I wanted to share my story, to inspire others, and to make a difference. And every time I felt like giving up, I would repeat these words to myself: “I am capable, I am strong, and I am worthy of success.”*Recommendations for People in Similar Situations*If you are facing a similar situation, here are some recommendations that may help:- Create a schedule and stick to it- Find a quiet and comfortable workspace- Break your work into smaller, manageable chunks- Use website blockers to limit your access to distracting websites- Remind yourself why you started in the first place- Repeat positive affirmations to yourself. As I look back on my journey, I am proud of what I have achieved. I have proven to myself and to others that I am capable of succeeding or becoming despite my disability. And I hope that my story can inspire others to do the same.Remember, success is not about what others think you can or cannot do. It’s about what you believe you can achieve. So, don’t let anyone else define your limits. Instead, focus on your strengths, stay motivated, and never give up on your dreams.Takeaway- Believe in yourself and your abilities- Stay focused and motivated- Overcome distractions and stay committed to your goals- Remember that success is not about what others think, but about what you believe you can achieveCall to ActionIf you’re struggling to stay motivated or focused, I encourage you to take a step back and re-evaluate your goals.
